Origin & Etymology

Khaos is the original Ancient Greek spelling of what English speakers know as Chaos. In Greek cosmogony, Khaos was the first primordial deity — not disorder, but the vast, yawning void from which everything emerged. The Greek poet Hesiod wrote in his Theogony (c. 700 BC): First of all, Chaos came into being. From this primordial void sprang Gaia (Earth), Tartarus (the Underworld), and Eros (Love). The Greek word literally means gap or chasm.
