“One of Islam's most revered names, carried by the first Caliph”
Abubakarr (also spelled Abu Bakr, Abubakar) is an Arabic name composed of 'Abu' (father of) and 'Bakr' (young camel). In Arabic naming tradition, 'kunya' names using 'Abu' (father) were honorific names indicating parenthood. Abu Bakr was the closest companion of the Prophet Muhammad and became the first Caliph of Islam after Muhammad's death in 632 CE, making this one of the most revered names in Islam.
The name Abu Bakr has been given to millions of Muslim boys for 1,400 years as an honor to the first Caliph. Regional spelling variants like Abubakarr, Abubakar, and Abubakr are especially common in West Africa, particularly Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Nigeria.
Abu Bakr al-Siddiq ('The Truthful') was the Prophet Muhammad's closest companion, father-in-law, and the first Caliph of the Muslim community. In Sunni Islam, he is the most revered companion. Naming a son after him is an act of deep religious devotion.
