Avantika derives from the Sanskrit word 'Avanti,' the name of an ancient mahajanapada (great kingdom) in central India, roughly corresponding to modern Madhya Pradesh. The city of Ujjain, one of Hinduism's seven sacred cities, was the capital of Avanti. The name can also mean 'limitless' or 'infinite' in Sanskrit, and carries associations with the goddess Avantika, a form of Parvati worshipped in the Ujjain region.
