The Story of Taha

Taha (طه) refers to two Arabic letters — Ṭāʾ (ط) and Hāʾ (ه) — that appear at the beginning of the 20th surah (chapter) of the Quran, known as Surah Ta-Ha. In Islamic tradition, these 'muqatta'at' (disconnected letters) are considered among the greatest mysteries of the Quran, known only to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was also known by the appellation Taha, meaning pure and pious.

Taha is consistently popular throughout the Arab world, Turkey, and Muslim communities globally. It carries the double blessing of being a Quranic name and an honorific of the Prophet Muhammad. In recent years, it has also gained use outside Muslim communities for its simple, elegant sound.

As one of the Prophet Muhammad's many titles, Taha is considered a highly auspicious Islamic name. The Surah Ta-Ha contains beautiful verses about Moses (Musa), making it one of the most recited chapters. For Muslim families, naming a son Taha is an act of devotion and a wish for purity.
