The Story of Myron

Myron is an ancient Greek name derived from myrrh, the precious aromatic resin used in religious ceremonies, cosmetics, and medicine throughout the ancient world. Myrrh was one of the gifts brought by the Magi to the infant Jesus. The name was borne by one of ancient Greece's greatest sculptors, Myron of Eleutherae, who created the Discobolus (Discus Thrower).

Myron was fairly common in the US from the 1920s through the 1960s, particularly among Jewish families where it served as an Anglicization of Hebrew names. It has declined sharply since the 1970s.

The ancient Greek sculptor Myron created the Discobolus, one of the most famous sculptures in history - the discus thrower frozen mid-motion. His work represented the Greek ideal of athletic perfection.
