Why length matters

A name's length affects how it pairs with a last name, how it sounds called across a playground, and whether it lends itself to a nickname. Short names feel punchy and modern. Long names feel established and formal.

Rule of thumb: balance the total syllable count between first and last name. A one-syllable last name pairs well with a longer first name. A four-syllable last name calls for something shorter up front.
